What is Hay fever and Pollen allergy?
Hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis, is a commonly occurring condition marked by cold-like symptoms such as a runny nose, watery eyes, congestion, sneezing, and sinus pressure. Hay fever is caused by an allergic response to indoor or outdoor airborne allergens, such as pollen, dust mites or pet dander. Pollution, such as cigarette smoke and car exhaust fumes can also trigger hay fever in some people. Many people are prone to hay fever during spring, summer and autumn months but some people suffer from hay fever year round from unidentified allergies.
For some, hay fever symptoms are a minor, temporary nuisance while for others, they are more persistent, making it difficult for them to perform at work, school or during leisure activities. In such situations it becomes imperative to seek hay fever treatment or relief.
What are the conventional hay fever and pollen allergy treatments?
The best way to treat hay fever is to identify the allergic substance and avoid it, but in most cases it is easier said than done. Here are several commonly applied treatments for hay fever.
- Anti-histamines – This is the most popular drug used to fight hay fever. Its most marked side effect is drowsiness.
- Steroids – These are often prescribed to patients in the form of nasal sprays as tablets have too many dangerous side effects. The main problem with steroids is that they usually take several weeks to provide hay fever relief.
- Eye drops - There are usually two types of eye drops - a) a simple lubricant to help with dry eyes b) a drug, which stabilises the immune cells. Eye drops too have little effect once the symptoms have started.
- Desensitisation treatment - These types of treatments are mostly reserved for people with severe allergies. It is not suitable for most people and carries risks.
How does Qu-Chi Band work?
The Qu-Chi band uses acupressure - a traditional Chinese medicine technique derived from acupuncture, for hay fever treatment. The Qu-Chi Band works to stimulate the Li-11 acupuncture point (which is on the outside of the elbow), which has been proven to have a positive effect on relieving hay fever symptoms.
Basically, the Qu-Chi band is an elastic, fabric band that fits over the elbow. It has been designed to fit snuggly over the elbow, when it is bent, and has a small plastic button that works to apply pressure to the Li-11 acupuncture point. By applying pressure to this point, symptoms caused by allergies and hay fever are dramatically decreased.
'QuChi' is the Chinese name for an acupuncture point that lies on the Large Intestine meridian. Meridians are pathways around the body, through which vital energy known as 'Qu' or 'Chi' flows to maintain normal body function.
The technique has been used by the Chinese for thousands of years to treat conditions such as eczema, skin problems and joint problems and is said to remove superficial heat from the skin. Even western scientists who have investigated this point have found that when stimulated, the point is beneficial in reducing itching symptoms in patients with kidney disease.

Testimonials
'As soon as a particular plant is in the hedgerow, I have typical allergy reactions, namely, runny nose, sore eyes, sneezing and a feeling like a tight band around my head. When I put on the Qu-Chi band, my symptoms were alleviated immediately.'
Honor Franks, Retired Schoolmistress
'All in all, I would say using the Qu-Chi Band in addition to my antihistamine pills worked well for me. I would highly recommend that other chronic sufferers of hay fever try it.'
Etan Silver, 30 Zurich, Switzerland
'I have suffered severe hay fever for many years - causing me to be in bed for days and terrible nose bleeds. I ordered one of your bands and wore it for the first time today. This morning before I put it on I was having sneezing fits and I had a nose bleed - since I put it on - nothing!!! Now I am a bit sniffy but nothing else. I can’t tell you what this means - its life changing for me so I thank you for it.'
